The Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for Fall 2024 entry to our PhD program. We expect to admit 7 students with full funding for Fall 2024. The application deadline is January 2, 2024. We will be holding an information session about our PhD program and application process over Zoom on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 10am to 11am (EST).
The Graduate Program Director, members of the Graduate Admissions Committee, a current graduate student, and a recent PhD alumnus will present about the program and admissions process for about 40 minutes. The initial 40-minute presentation will be recorded and available on our website after the meeting. Following the 40-minute presentation, participants will have the chance to ask questions.
The University of Massachusetts-Amherst is an R1 (research-intensive) University, and the Department of Communication has an excellent record of placing PhD graduates in academic positions. Our research and teaching areas include media, technology, and culture; critical cultural studies; film studies; performance studies; and language and social interaction. Across these areas we have particular strength in international and comparative perspectives and in social justice orientations.
