Slots are still available for the ICA26 preconference Preventing and Managing Occupational Intimidation of Researchers. This preconference provides an opportunity for scholars at all levels-including students, faculty, and research staff-to think about and plan for risks they may face as a result of their work.

The preconference is free, and there is no paper requirement. Just bring yourself, an interest in thinking through what risks you and your colleagues may face, and curiosity about how to best support and protect yourself and others.

Those who advise, manage, or otherwise oversee colleagues at risk (e.g., as PhD advisors, research team leads, department chairs, etc.) are especially encouraged to register. One of the preconference's motivating themes is that we are stronger together, and advisors, managers, and mentors have a particularly important role to play in shaping positive outcomes for everyone.

Here are the full preconference details:

Description: At a time when the abuse, intimidation, and harassment of scholars by outside actors is heightened and growing, it is crucial that we evaluate the tools and resources available to help protect ourselves, as well as support and protect our colleagues. Participants in this workshop will engage in guided risk assessment and risk mitigation planning. Using research-backed, trauma-informed tools developed by Expert Voices Together and the Researcher Support Consortium, participants will identify ways that they can better prepare themselves, their teams, and their students to reduce risk, as well as resources and procedures they can draw on to respond effectively when abuse and harassment arise.
    When: Thursday, June 4, 2026, 9:00 AM
Where: CTICC | Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 - Daisy
