Hello everyone,
I am happy to announce the publication of Communicative Property: Redefining capitalism at an interdisciplinary crossroads, published by Routledge.
The book put forward the idea that property and related concepts are not just legal matters, but also the result of situated communicative practice. Understanding that property is created through communication in everyday interactions opens up the possibility of recognizing more ways of having, possessing, belonging, sharing... and extending these to a greater number of people.
This work is deeply rooted in my previous life as a community organizer for housing rights organizations in Montréal, as well as my ongoing research with these organizations. Specifically, I was inspired to write the book when I became frustrated that legal definitions of property always take precedent over the other forms of possession and belonging that tenants may develop with and around their homes and communities.
