CfP Special Issue "Interventions to Reduce Stereotypes in STEM"
Women make up almost 50% of the workforce in the labor market. However, it is noteworthy that the labor force of women is not evenly distributed across all occupational groups. Certain jobs and positions are still heavily gendered, particularly STEM jobs. The gender gap in the STEM subjects can already be observed in school, increases at university and culminates later in professional life. Structural factors and gender stereotypes are among the most important reasons for the gender gap in STEM.
All gender stereotypes come at a high cost to individuals as they prevent them from fulfilling their potential, developing an interest in STEM subjects and making career decisions.
The aim of this special issue is to present interventions that can help to break down gender stereotypes in STEM fields in order to contribute to closing the gender gap. This special issue invites submissions from various areas such as psychology or communication and media studies. Different methodological approaches (e.g., experiments, survey studies, qualitative studies and control groups -where applicable- are recommended), targeting different types of groups (e.g., pupils, teachers, students, employees, HR managers, recruiters) in different contexts (e.g., schools, universities, companies) are welcomed in order to cover the breadth and impact of the available interventions (e.g., role models, mentoring programs) and to show different contexts for applications.
Submission deadline: 28 February 2023
