Posting on behalf of thesis advisee:
Hello! My name is Brooklyn Willis and I am a student in the San Jose State University Master of Arts in Communication Studies program. I am seeking participants for my culminating project, a thesis research study entitled Manifestations of Communicative Resilience. This study utilizes the Communication Theory of Resilience to examine how resilience manifests among adult children of harmful parental alcohol use in the context of serial arguments within their romantic relationships. Through interviews and surveys, this study will a) identify features of communicated resilience in adult children of harmful parental alcohol use reflections on serial arguments and b) determine how communicated resilience correspond with adult children's self-report of perceived resilience and relationship satisfaction. Collectively, these findings will extend applications of CTR and provide a resource for adult children of harmful parental alcohol use and practitioners working with this population, in terms of communication strategies likely to bolster resilience.
I am seeking participants who meet the following three criteria; they must be over the age of 18, be in a romantic relationship, and must believe that at least one of their parents harmfully consumes or has consumed alcohol. If you meet this criterion please email me at brooklyn.willis@sjsu.edu to begin the study process. You will first be sent an eligibility survey that will take no more than 5 minutes to complete. Upon completion and confirmation of eligibility, you will then be sent the main study survey which will take approximately 10 minutes. The final step in this process is to schedule and participate in an interview. The interviews will take place on Zoom, lasting no more than 45 minutes. As compensation for participating in this study, you will receive a $15 digital gift card. Once again, please email me at brooklyn.willis@sjsu.edu if you are interested in participating!
