Dear Colleagues,

Despite the pressing realities of poverty, the field of communication has produced remarkably little research that directly engages the issue. The invisibility of low-income communities in political communication literature suggests immeasurable potential for original work aiming to reduce the political disenfranchisement of the poor and its subsequent role in the reproduction of poverty. 

On Saturday, June 14^th at 3pm (Mt. Yale Grand 3), Cornell’s Communication Addressing Poverty Lab will host a 75-minute interactive workshop to collectively identify critical areas of focus and foster future collaborations in poverty communication scholarship.

Not a political communication scholar? That’s okay! While the central focus of this workshop is political communication, when it comes to poverty, most communication is political. So, whether you specialize in mass comm, health comm, environmental comm, risk comm, LGBTQ studies, etc., there is a seat for you and a need for your expertise. 

Never addressed poverty in your work? That’s okay, too! This workshop will explore how to adapt the theoretical and methodological toolkit you already have so that you can integrate the concerns and experiences of disadvantaged communities into your work.
