    Dear friends and colleagues,

Those interested in privacy/surveillance and targeted advertising may find this of interest....

I was honored to again address the European Parliament on Tuesday 3rd June, this time at the invitation of the Special committee on the European Democracy Shield, my talk was on 'Regulation of Political Advertising in the EU... or How to Avoid It?' and you can watch the video now here. (My contribution starts: 16:34:00 - panel begins 16:24:00). I talked about how ChatGPT is suggesting ways for advertisers to skirt around legal protections & target advertising on the basis of anxiety and other GDPR-protected categories in Europe. I again urged policymakers to close this loophole and properly enforce existing legislation, and building more effective responses to the influence industry and AI.

The panel also included excellent contributions from other distinguished colleagues:
    Arielle Garcia (Check My Ads)
    Alberto Fernandez Gibaja (International IDEA)

The follow-up Q&A is also of interest and I hope you find this an illuminating discussion and that it might be helpful in your teaching.

    Best wishes,
    Emma
