  • 1.  Support a Disability Interest Group at ICA

    Posted 20 days ago

    Dear colleagues,

I hope you're having a nice day. For those who have been to the conference, I hope your trip back was nice and uneventful!

I'm writing on behalf of a group of disability communication and media scholars looking to organize at the ICA.

Over the past three years, we have built a strong presence at ICA through our efforts, including this year's third Disability Preconference and a series of disability related panels and papers throughout the main conference.

We are now looking forward to taking the next step by submitting an Interest Group application this November. More information about our work is available at our website, www.icadisability.com, including details about our steering committee, which brings together leading and emerging disability communication and media scholars from around the world.

I'm cross-posting this message to the Student and Early-Career Researchers Hub because, following the reception of our last two preconferences, it has become very clear that many people are interested in disability and communication research, yet they don't always find mentors familiar with the topic. Our effort to form an Interest Group aims precisely to help build that support network, and we especially want to encourage emerging scholars to get involved.

We hope you can support our efforts by signing the petition for a disability interest group at https://www.icahdq.org/page/prosp-ig-disability (or tinyurl.com/icadisability if you like shorter links).

    Thank you!

Just replying to thank all who have signed our petition; for those who have not, we would really love your support - sign at www.tinyurl.com/icadisability . We have for the past 3 years been organizing at ICA, and have been inserting ourselves as panels across the main conference, and have done 3 disability preconferences aimed at doctoral students! really excited to see this area of research growing!
