    Dear all,

Please note that a whole day workshop will be dedicated to preventing and managing attempts at intimidating and harassing researchers working on sensitive topics (and how the scope of 'sensitive topics' is broadening dramatically). The session will take place in Cape Town, during the pre-conference slot (Thursday June 4, 2026) and will be convened by Rebekah Tromble (Institute for Information, the Internet, and Democracy; Northeastern U) who has extensive experience on the topic and describes the workshop as follows:

At a time when the abuse, intimidation, and harassment of scholars by outside actors is heightened and growing, it is crucial that we evaluate the tools and resources available to help protect ourselves, as well as support and protect our colleagues. Participants in this workshop will engage in guided risk assessment and risk mitigation planning. Using research-backed, trauma-informed tools developed by Expert Voices Together and the Researcher Support Consortium, participants will identify ways that they can better prepare themselves, their teams, and their students to reduce risk, as well as resources and procedures they can draw on to respond effectively when abuse and harassment arise.

Capacity is limited, but participation is free of any additional fees.
