2024 Board of Directors Meeting Decisions

The Annual Board of Directors Meeting was held in Gold Coast, Australia, taking action on numerous important issues. Some decisions are covered in depth in dedicated newsletter articles; however, a synopsis of most decisions is below.

On the recommendation of the Nominating Committee, the Board approved the candidates for the 2024 Election. The two Presidential candidates. Ingrid Bachmann (Pontificia U Catolica de Chile) and Jean Burgess (Queensland U of Technology) will be featured, along with their candidate statements, in the September issue of this newsletter. The Treasurer and Board Student and Early Career Representative candidates were also ratified; their statements will be embedded in the ballot. The election will conclude in mid-October.

Major initiatives approved by the Board of Directors at this meeting include initiatives focused on evening the playing field for members in Tier B and C countries, strategy for the coming years, ICA protections for our members' privacy, and more decisions about which future newsletter articles will be focused.

In addition, the Board approved many recurring annual agenda items, including the 2024-25 committee rosters; publishers' reports and reports from each of ICA's journals; reports from each of ICA's divisions, interest groups, standing committees, and task forces; reports on membership efforts; the 2024 ICA awards recipient slate; the ICA investments report and the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.

This was a productive meeting covering a wide range of issues of importance to all ICA members, attendees, and partners. Many thanks to the 2023-2024 Board for participating and taking time out of their extremely tight schedules to engage in the discussions for the association's benefit!

    Preparation for ICA Election 2024

The election polls open early to mid-September and close mid-October. Candidate statements will appear both on the individual ballots and via The Link. Candidates successfully elected in October of 2024 do not officially take office until the last day of ICA25 in Denver; the commitment (unless otherwise noted) for DIG/IG roles is from the end of ICA25 to the end of ICA27.
