    Dear colleagues and friends,

The Feminist Scholarship Division wishes to invite you to a range of activities to mark its 40th anniversary, during this year's ICA conference in Cape Town.

    1. FSD & ACSJ Pre-Conference - Intersectional Political Economy: New Directions for Research and Teaching
Thursday, June 4, 2026. 1-5 pm ET, On-site in conference hotel, CTICC, In Person
In conjunction with the Activism, Communication, and Social Justice Division, FSD will be hosting a pre/conference on Intersectional Political Economy of Media. This event couldn't have come at a better time, when we are faced with technological ubiquity in media and communication accompanied by profound inequalities in their production, distribution and consumption. The enduring forces of structural imperialism demands we have debates that will shape how we teach and research media in this era and beyond. The pre-conference concludes with a guided Blue Sky session to discuss challenges to feminist and intersectional political economy research in today's academy.
We hope you can plan to join us.

    2. Fighting Inequalities for 40 years: Indelible FSD Interventions in Institution Building and Expanding Intersectional Feminist Scholarship
June 7, 2026: 3:00 PM - 4:15 PM; Westin Ballroom East (Westin, Old Harbor Level)
Celebrating the FSD division's 40th anniversary, this roundtable addresses major structural, institutional, and intellectual contributions (or lapses and failures) of feminist scholars to ICA, international and transnational scholarship, and activism. After panelists offer brief provocations about key controversies, the audience will engage in lively, robust discussion. An overarching theme is the messy quality of feminist work, including how feminist scholars can work collaboratively to develop new methods, critique problems in the field, and invent and implement solutions.

    3. Feminist Scholarship Division Reception: Celebrating 40 Years of Feminist Scholarship at ICA
June 7, 2028 6.00pm - 8pm. Westin Ballroom East (Westin, Old Harbor Level)
The Feminist Scholarship Division will be marking 40 years of remarkable, engaging, transformative scholarship, mentorship and social justice activism.

Come join us as we celebrate the intellectual, diverse and enriching contributions, and enduring impact of feminist scholars across the globe. This reception offers an opportunity to network with colleagues, honor the work that has shaped the field, and look ahead to the future of feminist scholarship within ICA and beyond. All members, friends, and allies are warmly welcome to celebrate this important milestone together.

    Thank you!
    Miglena Sternadori (Chair)
    Irene Awino (Vice Chair)
