Promoting Academic Integrity Through Music: A Creative Approach to Citation and Plagiarism Awareness

Meeting tight deadlines can sometimes lead to citation oversights, and encountering excellent work from peers can evoke admiration and might create a subconscious temptation to discredit it and present the ideas as our own. These challenges are common in academia. After experiencing the frustration of having my published work replicated without proper attribution at a prominent conference, I created this playlist as a creative outlet:

To address these, I've created a playlist of five AI-generated songs focused on plagiarism and best practices for citation, covering themes like:

    • Credit Due: The impact of deadline pressure on proper citation
    • Citation Heroes: Managing feelings of admiration for a colleague's work
    • AI Police: The rise of AI-facilitated plagiarism, while it is a tool to detect plagiarism
    • Citation Station: The open-source tools for citations
    • The P Word: Plagiarism is an academic misconduct

The songs are available on various social media platforms under the hashtag #originalworkmatters. I encourage you to listen, share your thoughts, and spark a dialogue about academic integrity and responsible citation practices.

This project also invites further creativity. If you're interested, explore creating your own educational music-the possibilities are vast.

Let's foster a culture of academic integrity in a thoughtful and engaging way!
