How can we measure a society's resilience to mis- and disinformation, and what can those measurements actually tell us about where the vulnerabilities lie?
The International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) will host on Tuesday 9 December a virtual expert briefing exploring how composite indexes can help diagnose the health of the political information ecosystems worldwide.
Ahead of the publication of the forthcoming IPIE Synthesis Report, "Measuring Resilience and Vulnerability to Misinformation and Disinformation in Political Information Environments: A Comparative Review of Key Indexes", this session will:
- Explain indexing as a powerful diagnostic and comparative tool.
- Survey leading mis/disinformation indexes and the issues they capture.
- Examine resilience and vulnerability as twin lenses for understanding information integrity.
- Present new comparative analysis of ten major indexes.
- Highlight lessons for building more transparent, multidimensional, and globally comparable measures.
This briefing will offer practical insights into how indexing can inform evidence-based strategies to strengthen democratic resilience.
The upcoming Synthesis Report is the first in a series of outputs by the IPIE to be published throughout 2026 reviewing the health of the global information environment and recommending ways to strengthen resilience.
