Survey of Academic Twitter

  • 1.  Survey of Academic Twitter

    Posted 24 days ago

    Dear ICA Colleagues,

I'm studying how communication and media scholars think about Twitter/X and its recent whirlwind of changes. If this sounds like you (communication/media scholar, currently or previously used twitter, 18+ years), please take this survey and share your thoughts.

Since its 2006 introduction, Twitter (now officially called "X") has resisted any singular definition. Beginning with its 2022 purchase by billionaire Elon Musk, the platform's complicated identity has faced a new whirlwind of changes. In the wake of such changes, some people predicted that the platform's downfall and failure were inevitable. Yet despite such predictions, Twitter continues to operate with millions of daily active users.

It is within that context that I am conducting a research study about Academic Twitter and am interested in how communication and media scholars make sense of the platform. The purpose of this study is to learn more about how graduate students, faculty, and other self-identified academics in communication and media studies use Twitter/X and understand the platform. The study should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

    Eligibility Information:

    • 18 years or older
    • Identify as a scholar of communication or media studies
    • Currently uses Twitter OR previously used Twitter at some point

If you meet these criteria and are interested, please consider taking the online survey.
