Dear colleagues,
My name is Enrica Bridgewater, and I am a PhD candidate in the Communication and Media and Developmental Psychology programs at the University of Michigan working with Drs. Sonya Dal Cin and L. Monique Ward. As part of my dissertation, I am collecting data for a meta-analysis examining how exposure to screen-based entertainment media impacts self and ingroup-related outcomes for people of color. Specifically, I have the following inclusion criteria:
- The study must have an experimental, survey, and/or longitudinal research design.
- At least 50% of a given sample must include participants who identify as people of color: Black, Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), Native American/Indigenous, and/or Arab/Middle Eastern and North African (MENA).
- The dependent variable or outcome measures must include self-esteem, ethnic-racial identity, body image, and/or endorsement of ingroup ethnic/racial stereotypes.
- The study can include samples inclusive of all ages (i.e., from children to adults).
- As the media landscape looks different around the world, the stimuli or media in question for each study must be screen-based entertainment media created/produced in the U.S. and/or Canada including television, film, video games, music videos, and advertising. Both English-language programming and programming in other languages are welcome.
- Data from the unpublished study must have been collected (and/or presented at a conference) between 1970 and 2023.
