My name is Hannah Jones and I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Communication at Rutgers University. I am currently conducting a research study for my dissertation with Dr. Jennifer Theiss entitled "Communal coping and relational turbulence between emerging adult children and their surviving parent after the experience of parental/partner death." This research explores the impact of the death of a parent on the relationship between the surviving parent and emerging adult children and we would appreciate it if you would share your experience with us.
We would like to invite emerging adult children (ages 15-22) and their parent in a study about how the two of you are managing communication, coping, and day-to-day changes after the death of your parent/partner.
You are eligible to participate if you experienced the death of your parent/partner within the last two years, live in the United States, have access to the internet, and can read and write in English. Further, parents must have been in a committed relationship at the time of death. Children must be between the ages of 15-22, be living at home or in regular contact with your parent (at least three conversations per week), and identify both your surviving parent and the parent who died as your parent. Both parents and children will each complete an online survey once per week for six weeks. Parents and children will each earn a $10 Amazon.com gift card for each survey you complete, which would total $60 for each person if you complete all weeks of the study. Surveys will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

We will respond to each of you with a unique username and password and a link to access the survey.
