    Dear colleagues,
I'm delighted to announce the publication of a second edition of Mary Ann Shadd Cary: The Black Press and Protest in the Nineteenth Century (Indiana University Press). The book appears as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of Shadd Cary's life.  As you may know, Shadd Cary is considered the first African American woman to publish and edit a newspaper in North America. Her life and career goes far beyond that--she was an ardent abolitionist, promoted emigration to Canada, was an early woman suffrage activist, and much more. Here's a link to the book: https://iupress.org/9780253067951/mary-ann-shadd-cary/. Her newspaper, The Provincial Freeman, as well as her archive are also being digitized by the Center for Black Digital Research at Penn State. Check out this amazing website devoted to research on this import historical figure:
