RSVP is required for the following events

    FRIDAY, 21 JUNE: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

    "LGBTQIA+@ICA" RECEPTION

Please join the LGBTQ Studies Interest Group as we combine with the Second Annual LGBTQIA+@ICA Reception for a special night at a vibrant, local, and queer establishment. LGBTQ Studies scholars, queer scholars in other fields, and allies are all welcome.

    SATURDAY, 22 JUNE: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM

    ICA24 Saturday Morning Yoga

Asanas for Academia? Sivasana for Scholars? Whatever you want to call it, we all know that "conferencing" can put some wear and tear on your sanity and your body! Come shake off the stress and work out those kinks in your back with an all-levels yoga class taught by an experienced and licensed local Broadbeach-based instructor, overlooking the beach from the second floor of the Kurrawa Surf Club. So that we may have an accurate headcount, pre-registration is REQUIRED for this free event. Attendance is capped at 40. Mats will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Due to the second-floor balcony, children are not allowed. Thank you for your understanding.

    SATURDAY, 22 JUNE: 9:00 PM - 10:45 PM

    ICA's 2nd Black Scholars' Noirée

The field of communication is more diverse than it has ever been, and that’s a problem. An analysis of citation patterns in ten top comm journals over the past 20 years presented at ICA23 in Paris found only eight (!!!) Black scholars among the 1,011 most-cited. This result shows what we already know: that being Black in communication studies generally, and ICA specifically, can be isolating. If you’d like to make it less so, please come to our 2nd Black Scholars' “Noiree." ICA will provide food, drinks, music, networking, and a signup sheet for a possible future ICA Black Caucus that would bring together Black ICAers from across all divisions. Anyone who would feel comfortable in a room full of overeducated Black people is welcome. The first Noirée was hosted by Prof. Deen Freelon with food & beverage sponsorship from ICA, but wasn't able to be repeated in Toronto due to host availability. But this year, WE'RE BACK! This year's Noirée is co-hosted by Prof. Meghan Sanders (Manship School @ LSU) and ICA's Executive Director, Laura Sawyer. Light canapes/desserts and an open bar will be provided by ICA. Foyer E+F is on the upper level of the conference center (just across the pedestrian bridge from the Star/across the street from Synergy/10 mins from Sofitel) and has a view of the canal surrounding the GCCEC from its floor-to-ceiling windows. Guests welcome: bring friends!

    SUNDAY, 23 JUNE: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

    ICAKIDS (and caregivers) Picnic

Join us for a casual lunchtime picnic with your kiddos, outdoors on the Southern Terrace for some fresh air and sunshine, plus kid-friendly fare. Commiserate on parenting/caregiving in academia & make new parent friends! Lunch will be provided. The event is outdoors in an enclosed patio area to keep the little ones from running off, but please be aware that there are bodies of water nearby (the convention center itself is on an island) so children should be carefully supervised. You do not have to have your child with you to attend (we know not everyone brings their kids to conference!), but due to limited space this event is for parents/caregivers and their young charges only (honor system). Care will be taken to provide a variety of foods for every palate and all items will be labeled for allergens/dietary restrictions.

    MONDAY, 24 JUNE: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM
