Communication Education publishes original scholarship that advances understanding of the role of communication in and/or about teaching and learning processes in diverse spaces, structures, and interactions, within and outside of academia. Communication Education welcomes scholarship from all paradigmatic orientations (e.g., functionalist, interpretative, critical, and/or cultural) and methodological approaches (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, rhetorical/textual, and performative/creative). All submissions must advance knowledge production about communication, teaching, and learning in ways that are methodologically rigorous, theoretically grounded, and ethically responsible.

Scholarship in Communication Education addresses the intersections of communication, teaching, and learning related to topics and contexts that include but are not limited to:

    • student learning outcomes, including learning, engagement, and retention
    • culture, diversity, inclusion, difference, and/or social justice

    • communication pedagogy of disciplinary significance
    • communicative rituals and social structures
    • communication technology/social media use in education
    • communication and instruction in professional, civic, community, or family contexts

    • social media or media about or as teaching and/or learning

    • public communication/discourse regarding teaching and/or learning

    • museums, libraries, or other spaces of public pedagogy

In addition to articles, the journal will publish occasional scholarly exchanges on topics related to communication, teaching, and learning, such as:

    • Analytic review articles:  agenda-setting pieces including examinations of key questions about the field
    • Forum essays:  themed pieces for dialogue or debate on current communication, teaching, and learning issues
