This book will be an edited volume focusing on the communicative analysis of mental health issues faced by socially and culturally marginalized populations. Based on the communication perspective, this book aims to provide valuable insights and actionable recommendations to foster mental health in a diverse and inclusive society.
The chapters of this book will deal with mental health issues among the following populations:
1) Refugees, 2) Disabled People, 3) Homeless People, 4) Low-Income Individuals or Families, 5) Veterans / Military Family, 6) Elderly People, 7) Indigenous People, 8) Women and Girls, 9) Drug Addicts, 10) LGBTQs, 11) Religious Minorities: Muslim Women, 12) African-Americans, 13) Rural Communities, or any suggested culturally, socially, and politically marginalized populations.
Unlike an academic journal article that is based on an analysis of a certain dataset, the chapter structure in this book leans towards theory- or evidence-driven scholarly discussions and recommendations for communicative action plans. Consequently, the abstract for each chapter should encompass the following elements: 1) identification of the problems, 2) clearly defined research agendas, 3) the theory (-ies) intended to be employed for scholarly research and designing action plans, and 4) insights and recommendations for communication health campaigns, interventions, and policies. The length of an abstract would be approximately 300 ~500 words. Selected abstracts will be invited for full papers. The review of submitted abstracts will be immediate. So, editors encourage interested scholars and researchers to submit abstracts at their earliest convenience.
If you are interested in contributing your chapter to this book, please send your abstract to Dr. David Kim at do.kim@louisiana.edu or Dr. Jin-Ae Kang at kangj@ecu.edu. Any questions are welcome.
