    Posted 10-04-2024 10:50
The Department of Communication at Tulane University invites
applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in
journalism studies. We seek scholars whose research critically explores
how journalism engages with contemporary crises, including but not
limited to issues such as climate change, immigration, public health,
authoritarianism, and challenges to democracy. The ideal candidate will
have an established record of or exhibit promise in producing
peer-reviewed scholarship, employing research methods within a critical
    framework.

The Department has a strong intellectual commitment to innovative
interdisciplinary and transnational media research, evidenced in the
scholarship of our faculty, many of whom have joint appointments with
other programs in the School of Liberal Arts. We seek a faculty
colleague to expand the "Structures and Institutions" area of the
    undergraduate core curriculum
    (https://liberalarts.tulane.edu/departments/communication/academics/the-
communication-major). Structures and Institutions analyzes the
political, economic and social forces that define the media landscape
and the organization of media industries. Drawing particularly on the
fields of political economy and media industry studies, core courses in
this area examine the connections between communication and broader
historical formations, such as the market, the state and civil society.
Candidates should be prepared to teach one or more of our core offerings
(Media Industry Analysis or Technology Analysis), in addition to courses
in their areas of specialization. The course load for this position is 2-2.

    Qualifications
Applicants should hold a PhD (or anticipate completing their PhD by July
2025) in journalism, communication, media studies, or a related field.

    Application Instructions
To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, two writing samples, and a list of
three professional references with contact information by October 21,
2024. The search committee will request letters of recommendation and
syllabi from shortlisted candidates. Questions can be directed to Dr.
Mauro P. Porto (mporto@tulane.edu), Chair of the Search Committe.
