I have 27+ years of nonprofit management experience (18 of which were in the nonprofit healthcare sector), with a brief foray into arts management before finding my permanent home at ICA.
I started at a medical association, and for over a decade, I built the North American Spine Society's ethics and disclosure policies/procedures from the ground up, positioning NASS as the first medical specialty society to implement a rigorous conflict of interest policy. Prior to that, I founded the SCRUBBs program (surgical missions to Africa/Dominican Republic), ran the World Spine Society (equal-opportunity medical continuing education in Chicago/Rio de Janeiro/Istanbul), and authored policies, Presidents’ Messages and articles internally, in peer-reviewed journals, and for magazines such as Crain's Chicago Business. Through my job as a VP at NASS, I gained a love of international travel and a passion for connecting with people from other cultures, as well as a strong motivation to help spread knowledge and education.
A native of Athens, Georgia--where my parents raised me while living in student family housing at UGA, I spent 20 years as a Chicagoan until my relocation to Arlington, Virginia with my husband, two sons, and rescue dog Oscar in the summer of 2014. I am a passionate defender of grits and sweet tea, while at the same time extolling the virtues of Wrigley Field and Chicago style hot dogs. I have trained myself out of saying "you guys," but if you listen closely, you may still occasionally catch me saying "y'all."
